KJV Bible with Apocrypha. KJVA 5.1

The Bible King James Version with Apocrypha is an English translation of the Christian Bible for the Church of England. It was completed in 1611 and is commonly known as the Authorized Version or King James Bible. This translation was the third to be approved by English Church authorities and was printed by Robert Barker, the King's Printer.

King James himself gave instructions to the 47 scholars who worked on the translation to ensure that it adhered to the ecclesiology and reflected the episcopal structure of the Church of England. All of the translators were members of the Church of England. The New Testament was translated from Greek, while the Old Testament was translated from Hebrew text. The Apocrypha, on the other hand, was translated from Greek and Latin.

The Apocrypha refers to a collection of ancient books that can be found in some editions of the Bible, either as a separate section between the Old and New Testaments or as an appendix after the New Testament. The term "apocrypha" has been in use since the 5th century, but it was in Luther's Bible of 1534 that these books were first published as a separate intertestamental section. Luther's purpose was to make a point about their canonicity. He cited St. Jerome, who in the early 5th century distinguished between the Hebrew and Greek Old Testaments and declared that books not found in the Hebrew were not considered canonical.

The English-language King James Version (KJV) follows a similar format to Luther's Bible by including an inter-testamental section labeled "Books called Apocrypha." The KJV is largely based on the Geneva Bible of 1560 but with a few variations. The Apocrypha section in the KJV includes books such as Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, and 1 and 2 Maccabees, among others. These books are also listed in Article VI of the Thirty-Nine Articles of the Church of England, and in some printings of the King James Bible, they are included under the Old Testament despite being placed in the Apocrypha.
